Rod Stewart Loves Model Trains

When Rod Stewart tours the U.S. this spring, he’ll have one strange request on his rider.  A very large table backstage.

Stewart requests the table so he can work on model trains. The BBC reports Stewart has a thing for tiny locomotives. Stewart told Model Railroader magazine it is “an eye for proportion, a sense of what fits naturally, right down to the placement of the advertising signs,”… “When I find myself focusing so intently on a model that it ceases to be fun, it’s time to walk away, have a cup of tea and come back to it later.”

Stewart, has a 1,500 sq ft model train layout of 1940s New York Central and Pennsylvania railroads on the third floor of his house.

I guess you have to fill your third floor with something, most people’s lives are so empty they just opt for a roof up there.

Go Hiking - Get Fit. Mountain Shoes

Putting on a pair of walking boots and setting off on a country hike is one of the best ways to get fit, it has been noted.

Ramblers spokesperson Maria Castellina remarked: "Walking is a great way to get back to fitness, as it places very low strain on the body compared to other forms of exercise, making it suitable for almost anyone to start."

She noted the benefits include reducing the risks of heart disease, diabetes and arthritis.

And another great thing about walking is that it is free, Ms Castellina added.

Because the activity itself costs nothing, those who want to go walking can free up some cash to invest in items that will make the activity more fun.

As well as good walking bootswaterproof jackets mean it is still possible to get exercise and stay dry on rainy days.

Earlier this week, a press release from Wake Forest University in North Carolina stated overweight adults can improve mobility by up to 20 per cent by taking up walking.

Trains O Scale guru gives back!

Matt Ferguson’s latest train is on track to bring a big donation to the Pemberton Food Bank next month.

The model Trains O Scale master, whose work can already be seen in Whistler Village at the Brewhouse, recently set up a new display at The Pony Espresso restaurant, and it’s one that Ferguson is pretty pleased with.

“I put a lot of heart and soul into this one,” said Ferguson, who is known for his work creating displays in the neighbourhood of $300,000 for some clients. “It’s really warming… and it fits in fantastically.

“The Pony train has a lot of attention to detail.”

After completing the display in December, Ferguson brainstormed an idea to put on an event for kids that will also give back to the community.
